Workout Supplements

The first question someone asks when he/she starts a workout routine is ‘Do I need Food supplements.’ A slight variation for our male counterparts would be ‘I need to get buff, do I need supplements?

 

The very first thing to remember is that a workout supplement isn’t any magic potion that’ll suddenly make you gain 5 lb of muscle mass or help you lose 5 lb of fat. In some diets, we are unable to get enough nutrients, minerals and vitamins; that is when the supplements are needed. For example, you might be following a high protein, low carbohydrate diet with restricted intake of carbohydrates. This means that you could be avoiding fruits altogether. This could result in a deficiency of vitamin C. To take care of this deficiency, you might supplement your diet with a Vitamin C supplement. This isn’t the only likely scenario where you can use supplements. You could be strength training and in need of a protein supplement or you might not be eating enough fat in your diet and could use some Omega-3 supplementation. The type of supplementation changes with the type of diet and fitness routine you are following.

Pre workout supplements

There is a huge variety of supplements that are required to be taken before a workout. One typical genre of such supplements is the Fat burner. Most fat burners are required to be taken before a workout as they usually contain ingredients that boost up your metabolism, enabling you to burn more calories during a typical workout. They also contain caffeine which increases your alertness and concentration during each work out. Another example of a pre workout supplement can be a Simple carbohydrate supplement which provides you with energy during a particular workout.

 

Post workout supplement

For the case of majority of supplements, it is beneficial to take them after a workout because at that time the body is in a state of frenzy, accepting nutrients, minerals and macronutrients to repair the damage done during the workout. Such supplements include protein supplements, electrolytes, multi-vitamins, amino-acid supplements and many others.

 

There’s no distinction between workout supplements for women and men. Before you go for supplementation it is always advisable to do your research. Analyze whether you are actually in need of supplements or not. A healthy, well-balanced diet can work as well as any supplementation. If, however, you do need workout supplements, always try to read workout supplement reviews posted by people already using them to draw out conclusions before you actually buy them.
